OK, so we are actually headed in the opposite direction. We are headed to Topeka to the Kansas State Historical Society.
Did you know they have archives of many of the state's newspapers, and have put many of them on microfilm? Did you know you can order them thru Inter-Library-Loan and read them in your own home town?
The Towanda Area Historical Museum has purchased several newspapers on microfilm, and our collection spans from the 1880's thru the 1970's. You can come in any time and read thru them. They are a great resource for finding out information and stories about your ancestors who lived in this area. Our microfilm reader also has a printer, so you can print off what you need to take with you, just 50 cents a copy. 
Back to the Wizard... in the cleaning up of the office, there was a group of old Towanda newpapers (Western Butler County Times) that the KS State Historical Society does not have on microfilm, so we are taking these up to let them microfilm them and fill in their gap. Then the museum will receive a free copy of the microfilm, and you can come and look thru that also. There was also some Harper's Weekly from the 1860's and some Christian Science Monitors from the early 1940's, so we are going to see if they want those also.

The mystery question of the day is..... drum roll....
Where was the old one-room school house that was called the Green school? All we know is that it opened in 1870 and closed in 1945 when it consolidated with Towanda school.
In 1885 there were 4 schools shown on the Towanda Township plat (Towanda, Midian, Elm Creek and Silverton).
By 1905 there were 7 listed on the plat of the township. Of the 3 newer schools, the one in section 31 (about 4 miles south and 2 miles west of Towanda) we think was Pleasant Ridge, and it consolidated later with Silverton school. The one in section 19 (2 mi. S and 2 mi. W of Towanda), we don't know the name of, and it probably also consolidated with Silverton school. That leaves the one in section 7 (a little north and about 2 miles west of Towanda), and the biggest clue we have is that Wm A Green owned land in that section.
​Any ideas if this is the school called Green?
